I just got a new guitar, do I need a Setup?
The short answer is "Yes". The long answer is "Yeeeeeeeeeees"!
New guitars are rarely ever set up when you get them. And I've seen some brand new guitars lately from reputable manufacturers that have needed quite a bit of work to be at it's best.
A good set up can be the difference between an ok playing experience and an amazing playing experience. So definitely give that thing a good set up!

How often you get it set up is up to you. If you're playing a lot, maybe twice a year, if you're just getting started get it set up when you get it, and then you may notice that a year later it's starting to develop some issues.
Everything from temperature and humidity, to how it's stored, how you play, and how often you play can affect your instrument. It's important that you get it looked at when you first notice an issue, and a set up will typically fix the issue and also prevent others from forming.

Please, don't toss it! Not before you talk to me! I can't say that I can fix everything. And to be certain, some things aren't worth saving, and others simply can't be saved.Â

I love the local music scene. In fact most of the fees I charge here go back into the scene, you've probably seen me out at a show if you spend any time in Manchester.
I price my setups and work to be affordable to working musicians like yourself, and I will often offer discounts to players in local bands, depending on the work. Sometimes it's throwing in extras on a setup, sometimes it's a discounted bench rate for repairs and fixes.
Additionally, I will often prioritize repairs for working musicians at no charge. I want you back where you belong, in the studio or on a stage.
