I just got a new guitar, do I need a Setup?
The short answer is "Yes". The long answer is "Yeeeeeeeeeees"!
New guitars are rarely ever set up when you get them. And I've seen some lately from reputable manufacturers that have needed quite a bit of work to be at it's best.
A good set up can be the difference between an ok playing experience and an amazing playing experience. So definitely give that thing a good set up!
I don't know if you do this sort of thing but could you...?
Let's talk! I love a good project, and if I'm able to make your special project come to life, that would be amazing for both of us!
Depending on what you're looking for, the timeline on special projects may be a little longer than a regular Check-Up. But the wait will be worth it!
How often should I get a Setup?
This will depend on what you're doing.
If you're just starting out, practicing every day, I would say once a year, or as needed. Lots of things will affect how your instrument plays. including the general weather conditions.
if you get a Setup done in the spring, you may find that it needs a little attention in the fall or winter. Or the inverse of that. This is due to the changes in humidity that we can see here between seasons.
However, if you're a working musician, and you're gigging two or three times a week, then we should see each other every three to six months or so, and before any major performance, or tour.
The last thing you want is to have your gear going out of tune, or sounding all buzzy when the A&R scout is at the front row!
I haven't played it in a while, and now it doesn't work. Should I toss it?
Please, don't toss it! Not before you talk to me! I can't say that I can fix everything. And to be certain, some things aren't worth saving, and some simply can't be saved.Â
But we won't know until I've taken a look at it. So if you're not sure, call, text or email me, and we'll find out together, I will gladly give you a free estimate in case we can save it from the wood chipper!
