Setups
Whether it's a new guitar, or something that's been sitting around collecting dust, I can help!
A good set up is essential for a new guitar, and regular service can prevent bigger problems down the road!
This can help get rid of fret buzz, action that's too high, scratchy or staticky knobs, poor tone, and generally make you sound your best!
Repairs and Maintenance
Those sharp fret ends giving you trouble? Tuning head keeps coming loose? Maybe you learned about the importance of strap locks the hard way and now somethings missing.
Let's talk! I can fix most issues in just two or three days!
No guitar will stay perfect forever, but I'll try to help you keep it in good shape for years to come!
When you're ready, here's what to do:
Call, text, or email me. Expect to answer some basic questions to make sure I know what you're looking for
Set up a day and time to drop off your Instrument
I'll get to work! I generally can turn most setups and check-ups in a day or two.
Get a text from me letting you know it's ready to pick up, I'll include an invoice with details about what was done, and recommendations for care and future work. Then we'll arrange a pick up day and time.
Pick up time! When you arrive, I'll let you play the guitar for a bit to make sure everything looks fine, if you'd like to set an appointment for a 6 month checkup we can do that, and then you're on your way!
It's that easy!

A new guitar should be set up as soon as possible to make sure you get the most from your practice time. And annual setups after that are a good idea if you're practicing regularly.
\ Think of it like a tune-up on your car or your annual check-up with your doctor.
I recommend a Setup twice a year in this part of the world. Typically spring/summer, and fall/winter. This is to account for changes in humidity and pressure that can affect performance.
Also I recommend one before embarking on any tour for good measure.
If your instrument has been sitting for a while I recommend a Setup to make sure it's in good playing order.
When they sit for a while they typically go through all the regular seasonal changes, but without regular playing and maintenance there's a potential for corrosion of electronics as well as other issues.
A Setup is an important, and often overlooked part of owning a guitar. whether it's fresh from the factory, from a shop, a friend or free on the internet, every guitar could benefit from a setup.
Once I have it in hand, and we've discussed what issues you've noticed. I'll inspect the guitars for any obvious issues, like buzzy frets, noisy volume and tome knobs, etc. Then it's down to work!
Every Setup comes with the following:
Frets polished
Fretboard oiled
Bridge and saddles checked and adjusted
Action checked and adjusted
Neck relief check and adjustment
Electronics checked and cleaned
Nut lubricated
Intonation set
Tightening any loose nuts, (output jack, tuning machines etc.)
Body cleaned
Depending on what I find during my inspection and while doing the work, the following is also included:
Frets leveled
Frets crowned
Fret end dressing
Pick up height inspected adjusted
I will also restring the guitar if you provide strings (I can provide strings for an additional fee of $10)
I wish that someone had told me about the importance of a setup on a new guitar when I was a budding young guitarist. It would have saved me a lot of pain and aggravation, and I probably would have liked practicing a lot more.Â
My first guitar experience was not great. I thought my issues were because if the quality of the guitar and I begged for a better one. But the truth is that it was just never set up properly.
That's why I feel it's so important that you get them set up (fret dressing/leveling and polishing, action, neck relief, and intonation) as soon as you can when you're just starting. It will make practice time more enjoyable.
And to keep you playing your best, I also recommend that you bring your guitar in for a check-up (action, neck relief, intonation, fret polishing, as well as a good cleaning of electronics and body, and oil for the fretboard), once or twice a year. And, of course, before any tour or important gig.
Even something as small as changes in atmospheric pressure, heat, and/or humidity can affect how the guitar performs.
